CS Healthcare encourages members to get on their bikes
CS Healthcare a private health care provider for civil service and public sector employees is encouraging their members to get active on their bikes this autumn.
In the latest edition of care magazine, an exclusive magazine full of health, well being and fitness tips for all CS Healthcare members, the health insurance specialist outline the health benefits of riding a bike as well as the environmental and practical advantages of cycling.
Joanne Lumb, Head of Medical and Provider Services at CS Healthcare explains: "Cycling is great for you and the environment and is a practical way to avoid the endless traffic jams and parking problems typical to modern living. Riding your bike for just half and hour a day can help you burn up to 11lbs of fat over a year and save you even more pounds in reduced petrol costs".
Since 1992, the British Medical Association has urged the Government to play a larger role in getting the country moving on two wheels. In fact, it has been suggested by some health experts that the average adult should be undertaking around half an hour of moderate exercise on a daily basis. Cycling of course provides an easy way of doing this.
Gentle cycling is a great way to stay healthy and does not result in joint wear as can happen with other forms of exercise. Cyclists have even been seen to enjoy similar fitness levels to someone decades younger than themselves. Combine this with a novel way of getting around town and avoiding much of the congestion and traffic associated with driving and you have a good reason to get on your bike.
It's not only good for exercise however; cycling has been shown to be highly beneficial for anxiety, depression, and even stress. Partially due to the exercise gained but also down to the free feeling a bike can provide; cycling is a stress free way to stay fit and healthy.
